Campaign Priorities

1. Preparing Students for the Future

I am committed to equipping our students with the skills needed for future job markets. In addition to strengthening math and reading skills, this includes support for existing programs like Career Technical Education (CTE), internships, and teacher externships. I will advocate for new initiatives that align with emerging sectors such as healthcare, technology, renewable energy, and infrastructure.

2. Supporting Educators

Educators and paraeducators are vital to student success and deserve ample support. I advocate for programs that offer credentialing, curriculum support, mentorship, and grants. Ensuring our educators have the tools they need to excel is a priority.

3. Ensuring Safety

Safety is paramount in providing a conducive learning environment. Building on last year’s initiative to hire a Safety Liaison, I will support the development and implementation of uniform emergency protocols across all districts, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all.

4. Prioritizing Mental Health

Both students and educators face significant stressors today. I am committed to advocating for mental health resources that address emotional well-being, helping individuals manage outside pressures that affect their focus and performance.

5. Access to Outdoor Education

Connecting students with nature is crucial for reducing stress and enhancing well-being. I will continue to champion environmental and sustainability initiatives, integrating outdoor spaces and instruction into the curriculum to counterbalance excessive screen time.

6. Fostering Creativity and Innovation

Art and creative exploration are essential for cognitive development and problem-solving. I support programs like the Children’s Creative Project that nurture artistic expression. I will work to ensure that resources for artistic programs remain robust and accessible.

7. Promoting Inclusivity

Every student and educator should feel valued and supported. I will work to foster an inclusive environment where all voices are heard and respected, embracing the diverse cultural and political landscapes of our community.

Santa Barbara County Education Office Role and Board Responsibilities

For the past two years, I have had the honor of serving on the Santa Barbara County Education Office (SBCEO) Board. SBCEO oversees 200 programs supporting 20 public school districts and 10 charter schools, impacting approximately 70,000 students. Our responsibilities extend to special education, early education, career and technical education, and juvenile justice schools.

As one of seven Trustees, my role involves:

  • Setting strategic direction

  • Establishing efficient structures

  • Creating supportive environments

  • Ensuring public accountability

With your support, I will continue to champion these priorities, ensuring that our education system remains effective, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of our students and educators.
